How people actually pay less at MySmartMove

Choose the package you need: SmartCheck Basic at $25 covers ResidentScore and a criminal background check, while Premium at $49 adds credit, eviction, income and identity reports.
Set the screening so the applicant pays, where your state permits it.
If you are a USAA member, use the USAA Perks member discount on SmartMove.
Check whether your university or employer discount program lists SmartMove.
Cancel an application before the applicant completes screening if you no longer need it; you are not charged.

How much does SmartMove cost?

SmartCheck Basic and Background Check Basic are $25, SmartCheck Plus is $40 and SmartCheck Premium is $49, plus tax where applicable. There are no monthly fees or setup costs.

Who pays for a SmartMove screening, the landlord or the tenant?

The landlord chooses when starting the request. Either the landlord pays or the applicant is asked to pay, where permitted by law.

Does SmartMove have a promo code?

SmartMove does not publish public promo codes on its site. USAA members who are landlords get a member discount, and some university discount programs have listed codes for their communities.

When am I charged?

Payment is taken only when the transaction completes, after the applicant agrees to screening and verifies their identity. If the application is cancelled before screening, there is no charge.

How long does a SmartMove refund take?

SmartMove issues eligible credits within 24 hours. The bank may take up to seven business days to show the refund.

Does a SmartMove screening affect the tenant's credit score?

No. SmartMove says its screening has no impact on the applicant's credit score.

MySmartMove shipping, returns and payment

Returns: No charge if an application is cancelled before screening completes. Once results are returned, charges are not removed; eligible refunds are credited within 24 hours and may take up to seven business days to post. Checked October 12, 2026.
