The PickedBox Team: a row of figures in t-shirts that read team

PickedBox is a US coupon site. Since 2017 it has listed promo codes for online stores and, next to each code, the date it was tried at checkout and what happened.

Who we are

PickedBox was started in 2017 by Mert Gurdal, who owns and runs it.

The codes on the site are checked by the PickedBox Team. Every store page names the team, the date of the last test and the result, including the codes that stopped working. The team has no faces on the site on purpose: the record of the test matters more than who ran it.

The site covers more than 2,500 US stores in 22 categories, and a blog about store sales, discount programs and shopping dates.

How we work

Testing

A code earns its place by being typed into a real cart at the store it belongs to. The team records the date and what the checkout said, and the store page shows that record. The full method, with what Worked, Reported on and Expired code mean, is on How we verify coupons.

Ordering

Offers are listed by the size of the discount that worked on the last test, biggest first. Whether a store pays a commission, and how much, has no part in that order.

Corrections

If a page is wrong, a reader's mail is usually how we learn it. A code reported dead is re-tested and the page is changed: the row keeps a new date if the code still works, or moves to the expired list with the last date it did. Write to hello@pickedbox.com or use the contact page.

What we do not publish

No code is marked as working before it has been tried. Codes shared on forums are labeled as reported, with their test result or "not tested yet". No code is shown until you open the store through our link. We do not print counters, timers or claims that other shoppers are looking at an offer.

What the site does and does not do

What it does

  • Lists promo codes and deals for US online stores, best offer first.
  • Keeps expired codes on the page, marked expired, with the last date they worked.
  • Explains how to pay less at stores that do not issue codes: markdown sections, member programs, sale calendars.
  • Shows a code only after you open the store through our link.

What it does not do

  • It does not sell anything and does not take payments.
  • It has no accounts, no newsletter and no browser extension.
  • It does not promise that a code will work: stores change their terms without notice, so the date next to each code is the honest limit of what we know.

How we earn money

When you buy from a store after clicking a link on PickedBox, that store, through its affiliate network, pays us a commission. The price you pay is the same as if you had typed the store's address yourself.

The commission pays for the site. It does not decide which codes we list, which stores get a page or the order offers appear in; a store that pays nothing is tested the same way as one that pays. Every store link on the site is marked as sponsored for search engines, and the one-line notice in the footer says the same thing on every page.
