Amazon Prime Student in 2026: price, perks and student discounts

Amazon's student discount is a cheaper Prime plan, now called Prime for Young Adults, not a promo code. At the time of checking (October 2026), it starts with a 6-month trial at $0 and then costs $7.49 a month or $69 a year, half the regular Prime monthly price of $14.99.

What Prime Student costs in 2026

Amazon renamed Prime Student as Prime for Young Adults, and the old amazon.com/primestudent address now opens that plan. The page listed these terms on Oct 18, 2026:

PlanTrialPrice after trial
Prime for Young Adults6 months at $0$7.49 a month or $69 a year
Regular Prime30 days$14.99 a month
Prime Access30 days$6.99 a month

The page says the trial auto-renews at $7.49 a month when it ends, and notes that the trial is offered courtesy of Grubhub. The annual option works out to $5.75 a month, so a student who keeps Prime all year saves about $21 by paying once. Amazon bills automatically at the end of the trial, so set a reminder if you only want the free months.

Bar chart of Prime monthly costs: regular Prime $14.99, Prime for Young Adults $7.49, Prime Access $6.99, Young Adults annual plan $5.75 a month.

Who qualifies for the Amazon student discount

Amazon's page names two groups: people aged 18 to 24, and college students who are enrolled and verify their eligibility. You need to fit only one. A 30-year-old graduate student can qualify through enrollment, and a 20-year-old who is not in school can qualify by age.

Two limits are worth knowing before signing up:

  • No sharing. Amazon states that Prime for Young Adults does not include Household sharing of Prime benefits, so a parent cannot ride on a student's plan, and the student cannot share theirs.
  • It ends with eligibility. Once a member no longer qualifies, the plan moves to regular Prime pricing. Watch for the renewal email around a 25th birthday or graduation.

For households that receive EBT, Medicaid or other eligible government assistance, Prime Access costs $6.99 a month and may be the lower option at any age.

What the plan includes

Prime for Young Adults carries the full set of Prime benefits, according to Amazon's plan page:

  • Free Same-Day, One-Day and Two-Day delivery on eligible items.
  • Prime Video, which Amazon says includes ads.
  • Grubhub+ included, which Amazon values at $120 a year in saved delivery fees.
  • Free same-day grocery delivery on orders over $25 in selected areas, and member savings at Whole Foods Market.
  • Prime Reading, Amazon Photos storage and a selection of Amazon Luna games.
  • A fuel saving of 10 cents a gallon at participating stations.

The plan also adds 5% back on eligible Amazon purchases for verified members. That reward is specific to Prime for Young Adults, and Amazon publishes its rules on a separate terms page linked from the plan page.

Do Amazon promo codes work for students

Amazon rarely issues sitewide promo codes for anyone, students included. Most codes found online apply to one product from one seller, and many products show a clip-on coupon on the product page instead of a code.

  • Clip the coupon on the product page before adding the item to the cart; the saving shows at checkout.
  • Check that the seller in the code's terms is the same seller in your cart.
  • Be careful with sites that promise a student code for a percentage off everything. Amazon does not run one.

PickedBox keeps the Amazon coupon page updated with the deals and programs that do apply, and does not list a working sitewide Amazon code at the moment.

Other ways students pay less on Amazon

  • Subscribe & Save: for items you buy often, such as snacks, toiletries or laundry pods. Savings grow when 5 or more subscriptions arrive on the same delivery day, and delivery is free.
  • Amazon Resale: used and open-box items at lower prices, useful for monitors, headphones and small appliances.
  • Payment flexibility: Amazon accepts FSA and HSA cards on eligible health items, plus EBT for eligible groceries, according to its payment help page.
  • Returns: most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery in original or unused condition, which lowers the risk of buying dorm items sight unseen.

Textbooks on Amazon after the rental program ended

Amazon wound down its print textbook rental program in the spring 2023 semester, as Publishers Weekly reported when the change was announced. Amazon said at the time that it would keep selling new and used textbooks and would keep its digital textbook rentals on Kindle.

That leaves three options: buy used through Amazon and resell after the term, rent the Kindle edition if one is offered, or compare against a rental service. PickedBox also lists offers for Chegg, which rents print and digital textbooks.

Who this is for: students who order online at least a few times a month or already pay for a streaming or food delivery service. Someone who shops on Amazon twice a year may do better with the free trial and a calendar reminder.

How we checked this

On Oct 18, 2026, PickedBox read Amazon's Prime for Young Adults page for prices, trial length, eligibility, benefits and sharing rules, and used the PickedBox Amazon store file (researched Oct 13, 2026) for Prime Access, Subscribe & Save, returns, payment and sale dates. The 2026 Prime Day dates come from 9to5Toys and the October event dates from NBC News, both quoting Amazon. The textbook rental closure comes from Publishers Weekly.
