PS5 prices in 2026: Slim, Pro, bundles and when they drop

In October 2026 Sony's list price is $649.99 for the PS5 with a disc drive, $599.99 for the Digital Edition and $899.99 for the PS5 Pro, after a second increase in under a year. The best chance of paying less is Black Friday, a bundle that includes a game, or a certified refurbished console.

PS5 prices in October 2026

Sony set the current US prices in a PlayStation Blog post on March 27, 2026, effective April 2, 2026. Sony gave "continued pressures in the global economic landscape" as the reason. These are recommended retail prices, so GameStop, Best Buy, Walmart and Target usually sell at the same figure outside sale periods.

ModelPrice since Apr 2, 2026Price before
PS5 (disc drive)$649.99$549.99
PS5 Digital Edition$599.99$499.99
PS5 Pro$899.99$749.99
PlayStation Portal$249.99$199.99

The gap between the disc model and the Digital Edition is $50. If you own physical PS4 or PS5 games, or buy used games to save money, the disc model usually pays back that $50 quickly.

Bar chart of US PS5 list prices since April 2, 2026: PlayStation Portal $249.99, PS5 Digital Edition $599.99, PS5 with disc drive $649.99, PS5 Pro $899.99.

How the PS5 price climbed since 2020

The PS5 is one of the few consoles that cost more six years after launch than on day one. The rough timeline of US list prices:

  • November 2020: launch at $499.99 with a disc drive and $399.99 for the Digital Edition.
  • November 2023: the smaller PS5 Slim arrives at $499.99 and $449.99.
  • November 2024: the PS5 Pro launches at $699.99.
  • August 21, 2025: a $50 increase on all three models, to $549.99, $499.99 and $749.99, reported by Axios and others in the context of US tariffs.
  • April 2, 2026: a $100 increase on the standard models and $150 on the Pro.

Press coverage of the 2026 increase, including TechRadar, linked it to rising memory chip costs and tariffs, though Sony's own post did not name either.

Slim, Digital or Pro: what the extra money buys

All current PS5 models play the same game library. The differences are the disc drive and graphics power.

  • PS5 with disc drive ($649.99): plays physical PS5 and most PS4 discs. The sensible pick if you trade games in or buy pre-owned.
  • PS5 Digital Edition ($599.99): the same console without a disc drive. Every game is bought from the PlayStation Store, where you cannot resell it. Storage on this model has changed between production runs, so check the capacity printed on the box before you buy.
  • PS5 Pro ($899.99): stronger graphics hardware for higher frame rates and resolution on supported games. It ships without a disc drive; the drive is sold separately and adds to the cost.

For most buyers the extra $250 for the Pro over the disc model only makes sense with a large 4K TV and a habit of playing the newest graphics-heavy games.

PS5 bundles: when a game comes in the box

A bundle packs a console with a game, usually as a download code, and is often priced the same as the console alone. That makes it the simplest saving outside a sale: you get a $50 to $70 game for nothing extra.

Bundles change with each big release, so the lineup in October 2026 depends on the retailer. During Black Friday 2025, Consequence reported that Amazon sold the PS5 Digital Edition and its Fortnite bundle at the same $399.99, and the disc model and its NBA 2K26 bundle at $449.99. When a bundle and a standalone console cost the same, the bundle is the better buy, provided the game is one you want.

Check the listing for the word "voucher" or "digital code" and the code's expiry date. Codes for a bundled game can expire.

Refurbished and pre-owned PS5 prices

Sony sells certified refurbished consoles on PlayStation Direct. In spring 2026 Sony raised those prices too: Shacknews reported on May 1, 2026 that the refurbished PS5 Slim with a disc drive went from $449.99 to $549.99 and the refurbished Digital Edition from $399.99 to $499.99. That still leaves a $100 saving against new. When PickedBox checked the page on Oct 18, 2026, the refurbished models showed as low stock or unavailable.

Pre-owned prices at resellers are not always lower. A report from Oct 12, 2026 found a pre-owned PS5 Pro on gamestop.com at $1,399.99, or $1,329.99 for GameStop Pro members, while the new console was listed as not available. Compare any used price with the $899.99 list price before you pay a premium.

How to pay less for a PS5 at GameStop and other stores

GameStop sells new consoles at Sony's price, but a few store programs can bring the total down. PickedBox lists the current GameStop offers on the GameStop coupon page, including a first-purchase discount capped at $25. Read the exclusions before relying on it for a console, and note that GameStop says most promotions cannot be combined.

  • Trade in an old console. GameStop pays cash or trade credit for consoles, and GameStop Pro members get 10% extra. Before the April 2026 increase, GameStop briefly raised PS5 trade values for Pro members; that offer ended on April 2, 2026.
  • GameStop Pro. The membership adds a $5 reward each month and 5% off pre-owned items. GameStop also advertises $25 off a $250 purchase when you join or renew Pro in store or with store pickup.
  • Shipping and returns. Consoles are excluded from GameStop's free shipping, so store pickup avoids a fee. New items can be returned within 15 days, or 30 days on new hardware for Pro members.
  • Compare other stores. Check the Best Buy, Walmart and Target pages for gift card promotions and store card offers on consoles.

When PS5 prices drop: the Black Friday pattern

Black Friday is the one window where PS5 discounts have shown up every recent year. In 2025, Sony's sale ran from November 21 to December 1 and took $100 off the PS5, the Digital Edition and the PS5 Pro, according to Push Square. GameStop's own calendar also lists Black Friday markdowns on consoles and holiday bundles.

Other sales are weaker for hardware. Sony's Days of Play 2026, which ran from May 27 to June 10, discounted controllers, headsets and PS VR2 but not consoles, as Gameluster reported. GameStop's mid-October Pro Day focuses on trade-in bonuses and pre-owned games.

Sony had not announced its Black Friday 2026 plans when this was checked. If you can wait, late November is the most likely time to see a lower price; if you need a console sooner, a bundle or a refurbished unit is the next best option.

PS5 sale calendar: Days of Play in late May skips consoles, GameStop Pro Day is mid-October, and Black Friday 2025 took $100 off consoles.

How we checked this

In October 2026, PickedBox read Sony's March 27, 2026 PlayStation Blog post for the current US prices, the PlayStation Direct certified refurbished page (Oct 18, 2026) and the GameStop facts on the PickedBox store page, which come from GameStop's promotions, Pro and return policy pages. Earlier prices, refurbished price changes, Black Friday 2025 discounts and the October 2026 GameStop pre-owned listing come from the press reports linked in the text. gamestop.com blocks automated requests, so no GameStop console price was read directly. No console was bought for this guide.
