Gold Rush Nugget Bucket: price, what is inside and cheaper options
The Gold Rush Nugget Bucket is still sold in October 2026 and costs $154.99 in yellow, desert camo or pink on its official site, with free priority shipping to the lower 48 states. Cheaper ways to start panning exist: the Gold Prospectors Association of America sells a two-pan starter kit for $49.95 and single pans from $14.99.

What the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket is
The Gold Rush Nugget Bucket is a gold panning kit built into a stack of five-gallon style buckets. Inventor Mark Peterson, from Eugene, Oregon, pitched it on ABC's Shark Tank in Season 6, and the official site says the brand partners with the Herjavec Group, the company of investor Robert Herjavec. The kit is now sold through the Gold Prospectors Association of America (GPAA), whose name and address appear on the official Gold Rush Nugget Bucket site. The site says the kit is made in the USA and lists two US patents.
The idea is simple. You scoop dirt into the top screen, pour in water, and the water carries material down through two screens and a patented funnel into a concentration bowl. The maker says larger pieces, such as nuggets, gems or coins, stay on the screens, while gold flakes and fine gold dust settle at the bottom of the bowl. The flow from the funnel is set so it pushes into the sand just enough to trap gold under it, according to the How it works page. You still pan the concentrate at the end, so the bucket replaces the slow first stage, not the pan itself.
What is inside the kit
All three colors ship with the same parts. The product listing names:
- Outer bucket and water pail
- Bucket seat lid
- Upper and lower screens
- Patented funnel
- Concentration bowl and base
- Gold pan with finger lip
- Hand scoop
- Clean-up kit: tweezers, gold vial, black sand magnet and suction bottle
- Written instructions
The store lists the shipping weight at 3,221 grams, about 7 pounds, and the parts nest inside the bucket for carrying. A shovel is not included. The maker suggests buying a heavy-duty folding metal shovel, which it says fits in the upper screen.
Two tips from the official FAQ: the collection bowl does not need to be emptied when it fills, because waste flows over the top, and a few small rocks or miner's moss in the bowl help hold gold in place when the dirt is mostly sand. The magnet stays in its plastic vial and is used to lift black sand away from the gold at the end.
Gold Rush Nugget Bucket price in 2026
On Oct 18, 2026, the official store listed each color at the same price:
| Version | Price | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow Gold Rush Nugget Bucket | $154.99 | In stock |
| Desert camo Gold Rush Nugget Bucket | $154.99 | In stock |
| Pink camo Gold Rush Nugget Bucket | $154.99 | In stock |
The GPAA store sells the same kit at the same $154.99. The official site offers free priority shipping to the lower 48 states and says orders ship within 2 business days, with standard delivery in 5 to 7 days. It also mentions two-day shipping through Amazon Prime, so the kit appears on Amazon, but an Amazon price could not be confirmed at the time of checking.
The price has gone up since the Shark Tank years. Shark Tank Blog's product page listed the kit at $99.99. Older reviews that quote a price near $100 are out of date.

Returns and the 14-day window
The refund policy gives buyers 14 days from delivery. You call the company within that window and send the kit back for a refund of the purchase price. A few terms to know before ordering:
- The buyer pays return shipping, and shipping costs are not refunded.
- Sale items cannot be refunded, only regular-priced items.
- Exchanges are only for defective or damaged items.
- Returns go to an address in Eugene, Oregon. The policy suggests tracked shipping for items over $75.
Fourteen days is short for a product that depends on weather and water levels. Anyone buying in late fall should plan a first trip, or a backyard run with bagged paydirt, inside that window.
Cheaper gold panning kits
A pan, a classifier and practice dirt cover most of what a beginner needs. These are current options and their listed prices in October 2026:
| Kit | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|
| GPAA Gold Catcher pan, 11 in | One pan | $14.99 |
| GPAA Gold Catcher pan, 14 in | One pan | $15.99 |
| GPAA Mini Sluice Concentrator | Backyard sluice that runs off a garden hose | $34.95 |
| GPAA Gold Panning Starter Kit | 14 in pan, 11 in pan, scoop and classifier | $49.95 |
| Gold Claw Panning Kit (GPAA store) | Gold Claw, pocket pan and a first-gold kit | $54.95 |
| Garrett Deluxe Gold Pan Kit (Academy Sports) | Four pans including a classifier, Gold Guzzler bottle, two vials, tweezers, magnifier and guide | $59.99 |
| GPAA Paydirt Training Bag and Gold Pan | Practice paydirt with real gold, plus a pan | $65.99 |
GPAA prices are from the GPAA store. The Garrett price is from Academy Sports, which shows a lower price in the cart only, so the final price may be under $59.99. The starter kit costs about a third of the bucket. What it lacks is the bucket's stacked screens and concentration bowl, which do the first sorting stage without hand panning.

Where you can use it
The maker's FAQ says the kit can be used on most public land, including beaches, rivers and lakes, as long as no claim signs are posted. It also asks buyers to contact the local office that manages the land and get permission for the date, place and activity. Rules differ by state and by agency, and some areas ban digging in stream beds or near protected habitat.
Mining claims are private rights, even on public land. The GPAA runs member-only claims, and the official site promotes a GPAA membership as a way to get access to more than 200 places. On the GPAA store, a basic annual membership was listed at $89 and a family annual membership at $264 at the time of checking.
Who the bucket is for
The bucket fits families and casual prospectors who want an all-in-one kit that sorts material faster than hand panning and doubles as a seat and a carrier. People who only want to try panning once, or who plan to work mostly in the backyard with bagged paydirt, will spend less with a pan kit or a mini sluice.
