Viator Rome tours by type, with October 2026 prices
Viator lists more than 1,000 Rome tours, so it helps to sort them by type first. The table shows the "from" prices on Viator's Rome pages on Oct 18, 2026. A "from" price is per person and is the lowest date or option, so the price for your date can be higher.
| Tour type | Typical length | From price seen |
|---|---|---|
| Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, group | 2.5 to 3 hours | $21 (on sale from $30) to $68 |
| Colosseum with arena floor or underground | 1 to 3 hours | $91 to $103 |
| Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's, group | 3 hours | $21 to $79 |
| Vatican, small group | 3 to 3.25 hours | $113 to $148 |
| Colosseum and Vatican in one day | 7 hours | $138 (on sale from $172) |
| Street food or Trastevere food tour | 2.5 to 4 hours | $50 to $143 |
| Catacombs and crypts with transfers | 3.5 hours | $56 to $63 |
| Golf cart city tour | 3 hours | $34 to $86 |
| Pompeii and Amalfi Coast day trip by coach | 12 to 15 hours | $79 to $125 |
| Hop-on hop-off bus | 1.5 to 2 hours loop | $18 to $22 |
Before booking a low-priced listing, read what it includes: entry tickets, group size, a live guide or an audio app. Two tours with the same sites in the title can differ by $50 for those reasons.

Colosseum and Vatican tours: the two to book first
Viator tagged one Vatican listing "Likely to Sell Out" on Oct 18, 2026. Book these two before food tours or day trips.
Colosseum
The standard group tour covers the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill in about 2.5 to 3 hours. The most-reviewed version, Rome: Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Guided Tour, was listed from $68 with more than 25,000 reviews. Other operators listed similar group tours from $53 to $62. Arena floor or underground access adds a part of the building that standard tickets skip, and those tours started at $91 to $103.
Vatican
The most-reviewed listing, Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica Guided Tour, was from $79 with nearly 42,000 reviews. Several skip-the-line group tours started at $21 to $45, and small-group versions ran $113 to $148. The Original Entire Vatican Tour with St. Peter's dome climb was from $159 for 4.5 hours.
Entry-only tickets are also sold by the official sites, colosseo.it for the Colosseum park and museivaticani.va for the Vatican Museums. A guided tour costs more because it adds the guide. Travelers who want only entry can compare the official price first.
Food tours, catacombs and other half-day picks
Food tours are the most common third booking. Prices on Viator's Rome food tours page on Oct 18, 2026:
- Street food walks, 2.5 to 3.5 hours: from $50 to $57, such as the Rome Street Food Tour with Local Guide at $54.
- Trastevere evening tours with dinner and wine: from $68 for Trastevere Hidden Gems to $119 for Eating Europe's Twilight Trastevere tour, which varies by group size.
- Higher-end food and wine tours: from about $143.
- Cooking class: the 3 in 1 Cooking Class near Piazza Navona, with fettuccine, ravioli and tiramisu, from $60.
Other half-day options with steady demand are the catacombs and Capuchin crypts tours with transfers, from $56 to $63, and golf cart tours that cover many sights in 3 hours, from $34 for a private cart where the price varies by group size up to $86 for an evening tour.
Day trips from Rome
Viator's Rome day trips page showed these starting prices on Oct 18, 2026:
- Pompeii, Sorrento and Amalfi Coast by coach: from $79, about 12 hours. The Pompeii, Amalfi Coast and Positano small-group trip, with more than 7,000 reviews, was from $125.
- Pompeii by high-speed train: from $191 (on sale from $239) to $205. The train cuts road time, which is the main reason it costs more.
- Tuscany and Florence: Florence and Pisa from $109, Tuscany wine day trips from $99 to $113.
- Tivoli: Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este, about 6 hours, from $97.
- Private Amalfi and Pompeii: from $330, with the price varying by group size.
A 12 to 15 hour coach day is long. With only three or four days in Rome, a closer trip such as Tivoli leaves more time for the city.
When to book and how Viator cancellation works
Most Rome tours on Viator carry free cancellation. Viator's partner policy page says the standard policy, used on the large majority of products, gives a full refund when you cancel at least 24 hours before the start time. Some tours use custom or nonrefundable terms, so check each listing.
That makes early booking low risk for the Colosseum and the Vatican. A practical order:
- Book the Colosseum and Vatican slots as soon as travel dates are set.
- Add a food tour for an evening without other plans.
- Book a day trip last, once the city days are fixed.
- Check the weather and your plans two or three days ahead, while free cancellation still applies.
Reserve Now and Pay Later lets you hold eligible tours without paying upfront. Viator's Reserve Now and Pay Later page says payment is taken two days before the experience.

How to pay less on Viator Rome tours
The ways to lower the price, as of October 2026:
- Special Offer tags: Viator marks discounted tours with a Special Offer tag. In Rome on Oct 18, 2026, several tours showed a sale price, such as a Colosseum tour at $21 from $30 and the Rome in a day tour at $138 from $172.
- Viator Rewards: the Viator Rewards terms say signed-in customers earn rewards on eligible bookings. Rewards become available 24 hours after the experience and last 180 days. They apply in full, not in part, at checkout.
- Promo codes versus Rewards: the same terms say a booking made with a promo code does not earn Rewards, and Rewards cannot be combined with a promo code. Compare the two before checkout.
- Student discount: students who verify through Student Beans get 10% off eligible bookings.
- Group size: many listings say the price varies by group size, so a private golf cart or private day trip can cost less per person with four travelers than with two.
PickedBox lists current Viator offers on the Viator coupon page. Viator codes usually apply only to eligible experiences.
The row below is the same row as on the Viator page. The code appears after the click; Viator opens in a new tab.
How we checked this
On Oct 18, 2026, PickedBox read Viator's Rome tours, skip-the-line, food tours and day trips listing pages for tour names, lengths, review counts and "from" prices. Viator blocked direct access, so the pages were read through a rendering service that loads the public page. Rewards rules come from the Viator Rewards page, cancellation rules from Viator's partner resources and Reserve Now and Pay Later from Viator's agent center. The student discount comes from the PickedBox Viator store file. No tour was booked or taken for this article, and official Colosseum and Vatican ticket prices were not confirmed.
