Every price below is a queen, read from the brand's own store on Oct 18, 2026, unless the row says otherwise. Mattress prices move with sale banners, so treat them as a snapshot, not a promise. Trial means the number of nights you can return the mattress for a refund.

The list mixes three price bands. Under $400 you get Zinus and Linenspa, the two names that also fill most Amazon search results. Between $600 and $1,100 sit Nectar, Tuft & Needle and DreamCloud. Purple and Casper ask more for their own materials. None of these picks come from sleeping on the mattresses; they come from the brands' published specs, prices and policies.

All-foam picks: Nectar, Tuft & Needle, Casper and Zinus

Nectar Classic Memory Foam. This is the mattress most people mean when they say Nectar. In October 2026 Nectar's home page says mattresses start at $349, which is the twin price. A Tom's Guide roundup from January 2026 listed the queen at $649 and called that an evergreen sale price. Nectar's store does not show a crossed-out regular price for the Classic, so the $649 figure is the best public reference. It ships in a box, comes with the 365-night trial and Nectar's Forever Warranty, and Nectar says in-stock items ship in 1-2 days.

Nectar Premier Memory Foam. Nectar's step-up foam model. The Premier page listed the queen at $999 on Oct 18, 2026, with the king at $1,099. If you want coils with the Nectar feel, the Classic Hybrid was $849 in a queen the same day.

Tuft & Needle Original Mattress II. A plain, medium-firm foam bed that has been on sale online since the early boxed-mattress years. Tuft & Needle's store listed the queen at $699 in October 2026. Its 100-night trial covers every product the brand sells, and the brand states a 10-year warranty.

Casper The One. Casper's entry foam model. Casper's own store listed the queen at $1,149 on Oct 18, 2026, which is high for an all-foam bed. Casper asks for a 30-night adjustment period inside its 100-night trial before a return.

Zinus Original Green Tea Memory Foam. The budget pick that has been on boxed-mattress lists for years. On zinus.com the queen was $359 against a listed $718 on Oct 18, 2026. Zinus says its 100-night trial applies to mattresses bought on zinus.com, so check the seller's own policy if you buy it on Amazon or elsewhere.

Hybrid and specialty picks: DreamCloud, Purple and Linenspa

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid. DreamCloud is Nectar's sister brand and uses the same 365-night trial and Forever Warranty. The old DreamCloud Classic Hybrid address now redirects to the Premier Hybrid, which listed at $1,099 in a queen on Oct 18, 2026. Hybrids pair foam with pocketed coils, which usually means more edge support and more bounce than all foam.

PurpleFlex. Purple's mattresses use its gel grid instead of a memory foam top layer. On Oct 18, 2026 purple.com said queen mattresses start at $999 and showed $300 off a PurpleFlex queen. Purple's higher lines are far more expensive: the same page listed some queens from $2,699 and $5,499. The trial is 100 nights, and Purple asks you to sleep on the mattress for at least 21 nights before starting a return.

Linenspa 10" Memory Foam Hybrid. The cheapest pick here. Linenspa's own store listed the queen at $299.99 in October 2026, with free shipping and a 10-year warranty. The catch is the return window: Linenspa's refund policy gives 30 days from delivery, not a 100-night trial. Linenspa also sells on Amazon, where prices for the same size can differ.

Trial periods: what 365 nights and 100 nights really mean

The trial matters more than any spec, because a mattress you cannot return is a gamble. The rules differ more than the headline numbers suggest.

• 365 nights (Nectar, DreamCloud). Nectar advertises a 365-night home trial with free shipping and returns. That is the longest window on this list.
• 100 nights with a minimum (Purple, Casper). Purple asks for 21 nights before a return; Casper asks for a 30-night adjustment period. You cannot send these back after one bad week.
• 100 nights, store purchases only (Zinus). The Zinus trial covers mattresses bought on zinus.com. Bed frames, toppers and furniture have a 30-day window.
• 30 days (Linenspa). A standard retail return window, much shorter than the others.

If you buy any of these mattresses from Amazon, Walmart or a store chain, the brand's trial may not apply. Read the seller's return terms on the product page before you order. Keep the delivery date, because every trial on this list starts when the mattress arrives, not when you pay.

When mattresses in a box are cheapest

Online mattress brands run some kind of sale almost all year. Nectar's home page in October 2026 carried a "Fall Into Savings" banner for up to 50% off mattresses and up to 66% off bundles. Still, four US holidays bring the deepest and most widely reported cuts.

One honest caveat: Tom's Guide noted that Nectar's headline discount ran through most of 2025, not only on Black Friday. For Nectar and DreamCloud, a holiday often adds free bedding or a bigger bundle discount rather than a lower mattress price. For Purple, Casper and Tuft & Needle, holidays are where the price itself tends to drop. Amazon's own sale events, Prime Big Deal Days in October and Black Friday week, also cut prices on Zinus and Linenspa listings.

How to pay less for a Nectar mattress

Nectar is the store this guide points to, because its trial is the longest and its sale pricing is the most constant. A few steps keep the price down.

1. Read the banner first. Nectar's current offer sits on the home page. In October 2026 that was up to 50% off mattresses.
2. Compare the bundle price. Nectar advertises bundles, such as a mattress with a frame or bedding, at up to 66% off. If you need a frame anyway, the bundle can cost less than buying the parts.
3. Check the group discounts. Nectar's site lists military, first responder and healthcare professional discounts.
4. Use the price match. Nectar advertises a 30-day price match, so a lower Nectar price after you buy is worth a support message.

Which mattress in a box fits which buyer

Tight budget or a guest room: Zinus or Linenspa. Both are under $400 in a queen, but the trials are shorter or depend on where you buy. First real mattress, want time to decide: Nectar Classic, because 365 nights is a long time to change your mind. Heavier sleepers or couples who sit on the edge: a hybrid such as DreamCloud Premier Hybrid or the Nectar Classic Hybrid. Sleep hot and dislike sinking into foam: Purple's grid is the different option here, at a higher price. Want a simple foam bed from an older online brand: Tuft & Needle.
